Aims and Objectives

Policies

Berkeley Gardens Day Nursery creates a healthy, happy environment for your children to learn to explore and grow. We support this process with policies that have been put in place to support and protect your children whilst they are in our care. These include our Health and Safety Policy, Positive Behaviour Policy, Equal Opportunities Policy and Safeguarding Children Policy. All of our policies are displayed in our entrance hall and copies are available for parents on request.

Our aims include:

Meet the differing individual needs of children and their parents.
Provide a warm, caring atmosphere where children can develop to their full potential with confidence in the company of supportive adults.
Provide a safe, stimulating environment to enhance the development of enthusiastic, lively enquiring minds, the development of early learning and give a sound base for the increase in knowledge and understanding of the world in which they live.
Promote social awareness, a pride in themselves and respect for others, regardless of their backgrounds or beliefs.
To provide equality of opportunity for all, including those who may have special educational needs.
To promote sensory awareness, competence in creativity and self expression and communication through a variety of methods.
To provide opportunity for developing understanding of basic numeracy and scientific ideas.
To help children understand their bodies and develop physical co-ordination with joy and confidence.
To promote a sense of fun and humour.
To develop children as well mannered attentive listeners who can follow instructions, but who also develop positive attitudes, initiative, the ability to solve problems and develop independence in thought and action.

Berkeley Gardens Day Nursery complies with Health and Safety Regulations and has been approved by the Department of Environmental Health and registered by OFSTED. All of our policies can be seen in the Nursery Entrance Hall.

The Nursery receives Inspections from Ofsted Early Years, and general guidance is available from Reading Borough Council Early Years Advisers. The Nursery has written policies and procedures which have been read and approved by the relevant authorities.

Health and Safety Policy

Equal Opportunities Policy

Our Equal Opportunities Policy details our Admissions Policy, working with families and children, The Curriculum, Food and Festivals, Resources, Language, Special Needs, Grievances, Discriminatory behaviour, Complaints. This policy will be sent out to you with a place offer.

Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Policy

Our SEND Policy details our procedure for monitoring special needs and disabilities and to ensure that all children have the same entitlement to a broad based curriculum. This policy will be sent out to you with a place offer.

Safe Guarding Children Policy

This policy will be sent out to you with a place offer.

Positive Behaviour Management

This policy outlines how we encourage positive behaviour and how we may deal with any challenging behaviour. It also provides guidance for staff and parents. This policy will be sent to you with a place offer.

Admissions Policy

On enquiry a Welcome Pack will be given to prospective parents and an introductory visit will be suggested. On receipt of a completed Waiting List Enrolment Form, the child’s name will be added to the waiting list. There is no charge for this.

Nursery places are subject to availability. There will be equality of access to nursery places as outlined in the Berkeley Gardens Day Nursery Equal Opportunity Policy. When a place becomes available within a suitable age group, parents of a child from the top of the list will be offered a place according to the start date required. Priority will be given to children requiring all day care five days a week, then to those requiring all day care on two, three or four days per week, particularly those who can be successfully matched to make a full time place. Siblings of children currently attending will also take priority of places.

Welfare

The health and safety of all the children are of fundamental importance. We aim to provide a secure and pleasant environment for everyone. We practice a whole range of safety policies and procedures. Your child is allocated a ‘Key Person’ within their room, who is responsible for your child’s well being, ensuring your child feels individual, secure and cherished while they are away from home.

Our team

Our team are committed to providing the highest standards of professional childcare and education. Before beginning employment, all staff are thoroughly vetted in accordance with OFSTED requirements. Our team are dedicated to giving your child the individual attention to develop their social, emotional and intellectual development.

Careers

We have an extensive number of policies in place, all of which can be seen in the Nursery Entrance Hall. We are regularly inspected by Environmental Health and OFSTED. We endeavor to ensure that all staff practices remain in line with the current best practice.
